Niskayuna - Richard Dolins, of Niskayuna, NY, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. 

He is survived by his children Laura Dolins and Matt (Rachel, daughter-in-law) Dolins; and his sister, Judith (Phil) Spaid.  He was predeceased by his beloved wife Virginia Dolins in 2011.

Rick, as he was known to all, was born in New York City on August 16, 1945.  He graduated from the University of Toledo (always a Toldedo Rocket) and received his master’s degree in public health from University at Albany.  After, Rick served in the Air Force where he met his wife, Virginia by asking her “what is your blood type”.  Following active-duty service he served in the Air National Guard. Rick and family moved back to the Albany area where he worked for the New York State Department of Health in many rolls.  Rick also had a second career consulting for Sunrise Management and Consulting where he had his second retirement.

A beloved husband, father, community member, there wasn’t anyone he didn’t call friend or make a friend or tell a story to.  Laura and Matt’s friends considered him a surrogate family.  Rick was a pillar in the local Jewish community, and his synagogue Congregation Gates of Heaven where he served at every role possible, all but the Sisterhood.

Rick loved his sports teams from watching Yankees Baseball and Giants Football to officiating USA Track & Field Events. He equally loved collecting watches and his two Sports Roadsters.

Dad was quick with a joke, a solution to any problem and the keeper of memories and history.  He will be dearly missed by all. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to The United Jewish Federation Northeastern New York or the Regional Food Bank of New York in Rick’s name or your favorite charity.

Funeral services for Rick will be held on Wednesday October 23rd at 11:00 am at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave. in Schenectady. Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.
