Richard J. Shamus Obituary

Latham – Richard Shamus, 84, died on Sunday morning February 16, 2025 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Port Huron, Michigan he is the son of the late Jesse and Margaret Shamus.

Richard was an Air Force veteran and served during The Berlin Crisis from 1957 to 1963. He was employed by J.C. Penney’s for many years and previous to that was employed by Black and Decker for 40 years. Richard was a member of Temple Israel, The Colonie Elks, The Colonie Jewish Association and an honorary member of Pi Kappa Phi.

Richard leaves his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis Mickelson Shamus; his two sons, Arnold (Jane) Shamus of Loudonville and Marc (Silvia) Shamus of California; his sister-in-law, Rosalind Menter of Schenectady; and his grandchildren, Aaron, Spencer, Kuki, Kali, Zivena, Kimiko, Zen and Zoe.

Memorial contributions in Richard’s name can be made to The National Kidney Foundation.

Funeral services for Richard will be held on Thursday February 20th at 2:00 pm at The Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. in Albany. Burial will follow at The Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland. 

Shiva will be held at 11 Sparrowbush Road South, Latham: 
Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (Minyan at 7:00 PM)
Friday from 12:00 PM (noon) to 4:00 PM
