Richard "Richie" Weiskopf Obituary

Sarasota, FL - Richard Harold Weiskopf, a devoted family man, attorney, and lover of life, passed away on June 16, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on September 11, 1949, in Buffalo, New York, Richie spent most of his life in Niskayuna, New York, and in recent years resided in Sarasota, Florida.

Richie was a passionate and dedicated attorney who practiced bankruptcy and family law with integrity and heart. Outside the courtroom, he embraced life with energy and enthusiasm - as an avid skier, cyclist, golfer, and traveler. He had a deep love for ballet, fine food, and good wine, and was happiest when sharing these joys with the people he loved. He was known for his warmth, his love of conversation, and his ability to make those around him feel at ease and cared for.

He served as president of Congregation Gates of Heaven in Schenectady, NY, a role that reflected his commitment to community and Jewish life.

Richie is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Dianne (Borisoff) Weiskopf of Sarasota, FL, whom he met as an undergraduate student at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio; his three children: Jeffrey Weiskopf (Rachael Sokolowski) of Sleepy Hollow, NY; Daniel Weiskopf of Portland, OR; and Jennifer Olson (Bryan Olson) of Denver, CO. He was a proud and loving grandfather to August Weiskopf, and a cherished brother to Susan Newmark. He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence Weiskopf, and by his parents, Ivan Weiskopf and Edith (Lightman) Weiskopf.

Funeral services will be held at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave, Schenectady, NY 12309, on June 19, 2025 at 1:00 P.M., followed by burial at Gates of Heaven Cemetery. The family will return to the Temple following burial for refreshments and a light lunch.

Shiva will be held in Delmar with a Shiva Minyan to be held at 7:00 pm Thursday night. The family will also receive guests in Delmar Friday and Saturday from 12:00 – 7:00 pm. For the address of the Shiva location please call the funeral home.

Richie will be remembered for his intelligence, generosity, and zest for life - and most of all, for the love he gave so freely to those around him.

Those wishing to remember Richie in a special way can make memorial contributions in his name to “I am ALS” at iamals.org or Congregation Gates of Heaven at cgoh.org
