Robert Balkin Obituary

Clifton Park – Robert “Bob” Balkin, 60, died on September 18, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at home. Born in Chicago, on October 15, 1961 he was the second son of the late Howard Balkin and Susanne Weil Balkin.

Bob graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1983. He was a pioneer in modern political journalism in D. C. with The Hotline so he helped change how campaigns are covered. He enjoyed traveling, politics, international affairs, good wine, gourmet fusion food, tennis, golf and football, especially college football. He enjoyed living in South America and established in Mexico City in 1999. In 2013 he moved to Querétaro. In searching for healing from cancer, in 2020 he did a scouting road trip with his family driving from Queretaro, Mexico to Albany New York, arriving the same day the Covid Pandemic was declared an emergency. He drove 6,000+ miles with his sons, dogs, wife, mother-in-law and house menage, 2 cars and nine bladders in pursuit of happiness and health, while discovering the great counties of America. He and his sons enjoyed the trip immensely and they visited his childhood places, his well beloved Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, all the Battlegrounds from Texas to New York, making special mention of the Gettysburg ground and museum. He is survived by his wife Tzinia, his sons Miguel Howard, Alex Martin, Pedro Roberto Stone, and his daughter Emily Paris, also by his daughter Alice Camila, his brothers Jeff, Mark, Rick, his sisters in law, Randee, Ellen, Melissa, and Rosie, his brother in law Diego, his aunt Marylin, his cousins Chuck, Kristian, Cheri, Janet, Joe, Lisa, Ilena, his nephews Drew, Josh, his nieces Jordan, Tori, Abigail, Gabriela, Isabel, Mariana and Olivia.

A Memorial service for Bob will be held on Sunday October 9th at 10:00 am at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave. Schenectady, NY 12309.
