Robert C. Kurzon Obituary

Robert Charles Kurzon, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday August 5, 2024, at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness.  Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, he was the son of the late Samuel Kurzon and Francine (Gottfried) Kurzon.

Bob grew up in Delmar, enjoying summers sailing on Saratoga Lake and lifeguarding, He led a full and accomplished life. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Brown in 1965, and a Master of Architecture from Yale in 1969. Shortly after, he embarked on a successful career as the principal of Kurzon Architects, still going downtown every day without fail.  

Bob loved art and antiques, historic preservation, the NYT crossword puzzle, Scrabble, the New York Yankees, a glass of fine wine, and was an accomplished chef.  He enjoyed every summer on Martha’s Vineyard.  Above all, he loved and cherished his family.

Bob is survived by his three children, Alison Kurzon Johnson, Andrew (Carrie Wallace) Kurzon, Emily (Brandon) Baker, and his fabulous grandchildren, Elyssa, Samantha, Maxwell, Elliot, and Henry.  He also leaves behind his sister Judith (Al) Wieden, loving cousins, nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion, Lynn Phelps.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 8 at 2:00 pm at the Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane in Loudonville.

Bob will be remembered for his exceptional wit, entrepreneurial spirit, and the love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob’s memory to the Historic Albany Foundation or the Bethlehem Historical Association.

Bob’s family would like to thank the staff of St. Peter’s Critical Care and Step-Down units for their outstanding care and compassion.
