Albany - Dr. Robert M. Levin, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Philip and Della Levin. Robert was a graduate of Bayonne High School and Albright College before earning his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Pennsylvania.

A visionary researcher and a titan in the field of urological pharmacology, Dr. Levin’s professional legacy was defined by more than two decades of pioneering work at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. As the Director of Urologic Research he co-founded the Uro-Pharmacology Laboratory alongside Dr. Alan Wein, establishing a global epicenter for the study of bladder function and dysfunction. His prolific career, which also spanned leadership roles at the Albany and Philadelphia VA Hospitals and the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, was marked by groundbreaking NIH-funded research. Beyond his staggering list of publications, he was a legendary mentor who shaped the careers of countless young investigators with his sharp intellect and trademark dry wit.

In his personal life, Robert was an avid tennis player, world traveler, and a talented photographer with a keen eye for capturing the world around him. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Sheila Levin; his daughter, Sharon (Jeremy) Rosenberg; his son, Mikha’el Levin; his cherished grandchildren, Isaac and Alice Rosenberg; his niece, Sylvia Butler; and nephew, Bruce (Dorie) Levin. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Stanley Levin.

Funeral services will be held graveside on Wednesday, April 15th at 1:00 pm at The Independent Benevolent Cemetery, 260 Fuller Rd. in Albany.
