Robert (Bob) Schere, 72, passed away in Raleigh, North Carolina after a long illness. He spent most of his life in Albany, New York, before relocating to North Carolina in 2022. Bob was an outgoing, big-hearted person who never met a stranger. He had a large circle of friends who shared his passions for sports and all-things Syracuse University, his alma mater. He was a big fan of the NY teams, the Knicks, the Yankees, and the Giants, through the good and bad years. He was especially fond of horse-racing and spent may hours at the Saratoga raceways cheering on his favorite horses with his friends.
Bob was a chemist and had a long career doing water quality testing and food safety analysis for the State of New York and Albany County. He organized the annual bracket contest each year among his colleagues for the March Madness basketball tournament. His workmates affectionately called him “the Commissioner” for his bracket organizing efforts.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Jack and Frances Schere, and his younger brother, Michael Schere. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Schere (Ellen), and his niece, Amy Schere (Ben) and nephew, Daniel Schere (Melissa).
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Monday July 27, 2026, graveside at Beth Emeth Cemetery, 58 Turner Lane, Loudonville, NY. A shiva will be organized at a later date in Raleigh, NC.
Memorial donations may be made in Bob’s name to Congregation Beth Emeth (Albany, NY) or Temple Beth Or (Raleigh, NC), or a charity of your choice.
