Roberta Bert (Sedlik) Boss

(Scotia, NY)  Roberta “Bert” Sedlik Boss, 88, passed away peacefully on her birthday, Wednesday, November 10, 2021.  She was comforted by the love and prayers of her family and friends during her last days.  She was at peace knowing that she would soon join her husband.
Bert will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher.  She earned her B.A. in English Education from Brooklyn College and her PhD in English Education and Philosophy from the University of Maryland.  She had a long teaching career spanning all levels of education and different populations.   She taught soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Southeast Asian immigrants in a formal English speaking program, conversational English for older Russian newcomers to America, homebound and hospitalized secondary school pupils, as well as traditional college age students.  She loved to help others develop their passion for learning and received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Prince George’s Community College.  She was an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and various community colleges.
She wrote an unpublished book, “The How-to Manual of Philosophy,” and entertained her friends and family with her many creative poems and stories.  She loved reading, especially mystery novels, and passed her love of arts and crafts to her family. 
She was selfless in caring for her husband of 59 years and the love of her life, Milt, whom she missed every day since his passing in 2014.  Every vapor trail in the sky was a beautiful reminder of him.
In addition to her husband, Roberta is predeceased by her loving mother, Betty Sedlik, and her beloved younger brother, Steve.  Left to cherish her memory are her four children:  David B. Boss (Anne), Jonathon F. Boss, Sharon M. Amann (Erik), and Susannah M. Williams (Michael), and four grandchildren:  Margarita E. Castillo Redmon (Sam), Alexandra Boss, Daniel Boss, and Melissa Williams.
A graveside service will be held at Beth Shalom Cemetery, Schermerhorn Street, Rotterdam, New York 12306 on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 2:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers and to honor her husband’s memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northeastern New York Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza Suite #405, Albany, NY  12205.
