Latham – Rosalie A. Margolis passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025. She was born in Brooklyn on October 6, 1936 to the late Herman and Edith Simon.
While growing up her father would take her to the Bronx to see the Yankees play and she became an avid Yankees fan. She saw Mantle, Maris and DiMaggio play. Rosalie attended Tilden High School and then Brooklyn College and earned her Master’s Degree in 1960. She then returned to her alma mater Tilden High School where she taught math.
On July 3, 1960 Rosalie married Irwin Margolis and they were married for 64 years until he passed in November 2024. They had three children, Francine, Gail and the late Todd. After living in Brooklyn and Queens the family moved to Staten Island in 1971. Seven years later a business opportunity caused the family to move upstate to Latham. Although she missed her family, she kept herself busy.
Rosalie and Irwin joined Congregation Gates of Heaven and later became Presidents of the Social Club and Rosalie became Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
Rosalie was a member of two senior clubs, Thunder Road and Colonie seniors, where she enjoyed many trips with both. She considered herself lucky to have lived in Colonie for all the wonderful services that the Colonie Seniors provided her, especially the Cooking class at King Theil. She loved going to the city to see New York Theater and going on trips to Yankee Stadium with her son Todd.
Her greatest joy in life was when her grandchildren were born. She loved to take them shopping and go on trips, but she especially loved getting to babysit them when they were younger.
One day, Rosalie decided she would like to substitute teach at Shaker High School, which lead to a more than 25 year career in doing so. She loved her students, but an accident at home and her husband’s failing health forced her to retire.
Rosalie was kind and generous, every month she would mail in her charitable contributions to many capital region charities. Memorial Contributions in Rosalie’s name can be made to Albany Autism, The American Cancer Society or The American Diabetes Association.
Rosalie is survived by her loving daughters, Francine Margolis of Washington State and Gail (Karl) Doering of Loudonville. She was predeceased by her son, Todd Margolis of Latham. She also leaves her devoted grandchildren, Kayla (Jake), Eric, Alex, Tyler and Harmony.
Funeral services for Rosalie will be held on Sunday September 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Congregation Gates of Heaven, 852 Ashmore Ave. in Schenectady. Burial will follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery.
