Rosalind Unterman, 97 passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home. Rosalind is the late daughter of Jennie and Isaac Aronowitz. Rosalind was predeceased by her husband, Dr. David Unterman and her son, William Unterman, her sister Etta Gordon, her brother, Louis Aronowitz and nephews Leonard, Jerome and Fred Gordon. She is survived by her daughter Ilene Unterman – Zimmer (Rick) and her grandchildren Jeremy and Sarah as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rosalind was a first generation American who left her mark on the community in so many ways. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and resided there for 88 years, until she moved to the Capital Region in 2013.

Rosalind obtained a Master’s in Psychology from NYU and Master’s in Social Work from Smith College. She was a medical social worker at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.  Subsequently, she joined a research team and studied women with Post- Partum Depression.  She and her colleagues published their findings.

Rosalind was a voracious reader.  She always said, “If I have a book, I have a friend.” She also loved classical music and attended many concerts at Lincoln Center. However, most of all Rosalind loved her family and friends She was a forward thinker for her generation and was a very accepting individual. People were attracted to her because of her kind and caring ways. Additionally, she was an excellent listener.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Star of David Chapel in West Babylon New York at 2:45pm.  Interment i will follow at the New Montefiore Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.  The family is requesting that you call to inquire about the mourning period.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Community Hospice of Albany or the Southern Poverty Law Center.
