Ruth L. Poskanzer

Albany – Ruth L. Poskanzer, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 25, 2023 at The Daughters of Sarah Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Ruth was born in Poland on October 17, 1930.  In May of 1938, she immigrated to Albany with her parents, the late Leon and Anna Ainspan.

Ruth was a graduate of Albany High School and Mildred Elley Business School. She worked for many years at the New York State Department of Health. She was an active member of Ohav Shalom, Temple Israel, The Daughters of Sarah Womens Auxiliary and a lifetime member of Hadassah.  Ruth and Sam were very involved with the Bet Shraga Hebrew Academy especially during the formative years.  Together with Sam they volunteered at The Massry and Daughters and especially enjoyed leading the Yiddish club. Ruth was truly a people person. She always had a smile and enjoyed meeting and engaging with others.   After retirement, Ruth and Sam enjoyed spending winters in Florida and time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Marcia (Yoel) Anouchi; her son, Mark (Caryn) Poskanzer;  her brother, Abraham M. (Bea) Ainspan; her grandchildren, Avi (Mori) Anouchi, Ariella Anouchi, Eitan (Michal) Anouchi, Elihu (Lani) Anouchi, Jared (Lauren) Poskanzer, Adam (Holly) Poskanzer, Noah (Amanda) Poskanzer and Dayna Poskanzer. She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, and her nieces, Naomi (Avi) Friedman, Marla Ainspan and her nephew Jason (Rochelle) Ainspan. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Samuel Poskanzer.

A special thanks to the staff at The Massry and Daughters of Sarah who provided excellent care and compassion during these last few years.

Funeral services will be held graveside Wednesday July 26th at 1:00 pm at Temple Israel Cemetery, 1626 Western Ave. in Guilderland.

Shiva will be held at the home of Mark and Caryn Poskanzer,10 Erie Drive in Slingerlands at the following times:

Wednesday 7/26  4:00 - 7:30 pm

Thursday 7/27  3:30 - 6:30 pm

Friday 7/28  3:00 - 5:00 pm
