Our beloved Sam Plesser left us on October 26, 2022 after ninety two years of living well and loving his family. Born and raised in Albany, Sam was the child of Monya and Morris Plesser. He was the devoted brother of Lou, Hymie, Danny and Reva. The Plesser brothers and sister were dedicated to each other their entire lives, and Sam enjoyed special bonds with each of them. As his mother grew older, Sam cared for her, ensuring she was able to live in her home comfortably, visiting with her every day. His love of family included a large group of nieces and nephews. He is survived by his beloved sister Reva, nephews and nieces Marvin (Toby), Larry, Sharon (Eric), Dawn (David), Martin (Ellie), Sarah, Jackie (Michael), Alan (Ilene) and Frank (Stephanie), and their children.
As a young man, Sam became an inspired entrepreneur and an independent thinker. He sold comic books and newspapers, helped his father with his scrap metal business. After joining the Army, Sam found tremendous joy in traveling the world, living in Japan, making business deals in Cuba and the Dominican Republic, visiting Israel. He befriended people wherever he went, dancing to Cuban music, dating lovely ladies. When he returned to Albany, Sam began to seriously invest in real estate and stocks, building his impressive business, teaching himself what he needed to know. Sam was proud of his accomplishments. During his entire life he learned to live well and savor his experiences. His pleasures included his cabin in Lake George, taking his boat out on the lake, going on drives to explore the world around Albany, having a little fridge stocked with pickles, onions and hamburgers. He was always up for a trip to the Gateway Diner at midnight for a corned beef sandwich. Sam retired and moved to his home in Florida, where he walked along the boardwalk, stayed in touch with dear friends, ate well and enjoyed his days.
Sam will be remembered for his strong devotion to his family, his vibrant personality, his loud laugh, the way he knew a song for every situation, and his robust approach to life.
Graveside services will be at the Independent Benevolent Cemetery, Fuller Road in Albany on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 1:30pm.
