Sarah "Sally" Tillman Obituary

Albany – Sarah “Sally” Ziman Tillman, 90, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2023 at Albany Medical Center. Born in New York, NY she is the daughter of the late Frederick Ziman and Celia Hornstein (Nee Kroosh).

Sally graduated from Cornell University in 1953 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She would go on to work for the Albany Jewish Community Center, H & R Block and New York State Dept. of Taxation & Finance. On April 14, 1957 Sally married her husband of 48 years, Norman Tillman. They would go on to raise their two sons at their long time residence on Edgecomb Street in Albany.

Sally was very generous with her time through the years volunteering with many charities and organizations including; Past President of the former Abigail #3 UTOS, League of Women Voters, Jewish Family Services and Capital Repertory Theatre.

Sally is survived by her sons, Howard (Natalie) Tillman and Lieutenant Colonel John Tillman (US Air Force Retired) and his wife, Colonel Tina Chester (US Air Force Retired); her grandchildren, Joshua (Amber) Tillman, Zachary (Alicia) Tillman and Tyler (Caroline) Tillman; her great-grandchildren, Kathrine Kenney Tillman, Robert Mitchell Tillman, William Griffith Tillman and Hannah Tillman. She is also survived by a sister, Laura Ziman; nephews, David and William Barnert; and niece, Ruth Birnbaum.

Funeral services for Sally will be held on Tuesday June 27th at 10:30 am at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Rd. in Albany. Burial will follow at The Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National at 1:00 pm where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved Norman.
