Shirley Gordon

Albany - Shirley Gordon 95 a lifelong resident of Albany passed away peacefully Sunday February 26, 2023 surrounded by loved ones at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn NY.

Shirley was preceded in death by her brother Herman Ikler, her father Julius Ikler and mother Sadie Ikler. She is survived by her sister, Muriel Grode and brother, Melvin Ikler.  Her beloved children Harvey (Michelle) Gordon of Albany NY, Mark Gordon of Sacramento CA and Lisa (Jano) Handler of Brooklyn NY. She will be dearly missed by her 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces nephews and cousins. Shirley was our guiding light and matriarch of our very blessed family.

Shirley was retired from the New York State Department of Tax and Finance. In her retirement she enjoyed working in the jewelry department for Lord and Taylor. Shirley was a graduate of Phillip Schuyler high school and was married to Leonard Gordon with whom she had her three children. She was a longtime resident of the Whitehall Rd. senior apartments where she enjoyed socializing with her friends, playing mahjong and canasta. Most of all Shirley found happiness and fulfillment spending time with family. Shirley traveled extensively with her brother, sister and cousins, going to Israel, Florida, California, and most of all to the Fallsview hotel.  The Fallsview was the meeting place for many years of our “Mishpocheh” cousin's reunion. Shirley was always keeping everyone entertained and laughing. Shirley also traveled to a number of her grandchildren's weddings from California to Atlanta, New York and Long Island. She was also blessed with attending her great grandson Ezra’s Bris at Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob, June of 2022.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 1st at 2:00 pm at Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Ave. Interment will follow at the Independent Benevolent Cemetery on Fuller Rd. Family and friends will be welcome to visit at the home of Harvey Gordon and Michelle Barlow following the service of internment at 67 Cascade Terrace Niskayuna NY.  Friends and family may also visit again on Thursday March 2nd from 6-9 PM.
