Roslindale, MA.
Shirley Kramer Wollman, age 93, died peacefully on November 17, 2021 at Hebrew Senior Life in Boston. Hers was a life well-lived. She was a former resident of Delray Beach, Florida, and spent the majority of her life in Schenectady, New York.
As a devoted officer of B’nai Brith, Shirley toured schools with Dolls for Democracy, which promoted the lives of outstanding individuals regardless of “race, religion or social class.”
She was a former member of Hadassah, Congregation Agudat Achim, and the National Council of Jewish Women. She was proud to become a Bat Mitzvah on her trip to Israel in 1994. In addition, Shirley was an avid tennis, bridge, and mahjong player.
As a young woman, Shirley worked at the Schenectady Jewish Community Center as a secretary. It was there that she met her husband Jake, who she loved deeply until his untimely death. Shirley was a bookkeeper at the Colonie Deli in Colonie Center and enjoyed over 25 years in sales and collections at Glennpeter Jewelers.
Shirley maintained her enthusiasm and high energy as a lover of life and laughter, modeling resiliency despite many challenges. Her innate desire to help others was evident throughout her life, baking brownies for her doctors, making kugel for a friend in need, as well as being named the “Mayor” of 4 Berger at HSL, and helping staff and residents alike at The Providence House in Brighton to name a few.
The family wishes to thank the 4 Berger team caregivers at Hebrew Senior Life for their loving care.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Aaron Jacob Wollman in 1990, Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Lynne Frank (Louis) of Framingham, MA, and Deborah Friedson (Arthur) of Niskayuna, NY. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Alyssa Frank-Reichman (Ben), Andrew Friedson (Molly), Matthew Friedson (Olivia), Rachel Berkowitz (Dan), seven precious great-grandchildren, Noah, Zoe, Joshua, Aviva, Brooks, Harper, Maya, her nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
Shirley would like to be remembered with happy thoughts and memories made with those she loved. A graveside funeral will be held on Friday, November 19 at 12:30 PM at the Beth Israel Cemetery on Abbottsford Road in Rotterdam, NY. Shiva minyans will be held virtually during the week via the Congregation Agudat Achim website at 6:00 pm on Saturday evening and 7:15 pm each evening from Sunday through Wednesday.
