Stephen Edward Doling

Stephen Edward Doling, 75, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on April 18, 2021 after a courageous six-month battle with cancer. He was born on March 13, 1946 in Albany, NY to parents Henry Doling and Anne Doling-Baum.

This year would have been the 50th wedding anniversary of Stephen and Deborah, who were married on December 18, 1971. Steve and Debbie were inseparable over the years and enjoyed many trips around the world, including such destinations as Australia, the Caribbean, Croatia, England, Fiji, France, Hawaii, Italy, Mexico and Spain.

Steve graduated from Albany High School in 1964 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from the University at Albany. In his early 20s, he enlisted in the U.S. military and proudly served four years in the Army Reserves. He then spent more than 25 years working as an accountant for the New York State Dormitory Authority, retiring in 1995. Prior to that in 1988, Steve began a second career in the limousine industry that lasted more than 15 years.

An avid car enthusiast, he owned many vehicles over the course of his life, including a variety of corvettes and other sports cars (most of which were never driven). Following in the footsteps of his father, Steve was also a licensed real estate broker in Clifton Park, NY. He had a passion for buying and selling houses in the later years of his life and enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida. He took immense pride in building and furnishing each home.

Steve is survived by a loving family that includes his wife Debbie Doling, sons Jason Doling (John DeCelle) of Glen Cove, NY and Adam Doling (Diane) of Rexford, NY, and his beloved grandchildren Kayla and Logan Doling. He was predeceased by his father Henry in 1966, his mother Anne in 2017 and his stepfather Martin Baum in 2010, along with many other family members, friends and treasured four-legged friends (Max, Rusty, Tara, Quincy, Sophie, Bailey, Benji and Clyde).

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Duncan Savage, Dr. Stefan Swicker, the entire oncology staff at St. Peter’s Hospital, and especially home health aides Danielle and Lisa in his final days. Despite facing a harrowing diagnosis, Steve battled this brutal disease with bravery and heroism. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.
