Delmar - The world lost a bright light in Terry Helene Moskowitz on October 3, 2022 but her life and accomplishments continue to provide inspiration and comfort to the loved ones she left behind. Terry was born November 12, 1949 and was raised in Far Rockaway, Queens, NY The friendships she made in her home town continued for her entire life. Through school and marriage, kids and grandkids, she would remain a Far Rockaway Deb, and her FR Deb crew meant the world to her and brought her joy. This was typical of Terry, who made friendships that were deep and lasting. She impacted everyone she met because she drew out the very best in people.
After her graduation from Far Rockaway High School in 1967, Terry attended Hunter College in Manhattan, earning a Bachelor’s Degree. Ever the life-long learner, Terry then moved upstate to complete not one, but two Master’s Degrees at SUNY Albany in special education and social work. It was in Albany, on a doubles tennis date, that Terry met her husband of 46 years, Ivor. They would eventually take their partnership beyond the tennis court and back to their city of birth, NYC, where they were wed on July 4, 1976, America’s Bicentennial. Terry always said the fireworks around the country were in celebration of their union. Terry and Ivor settled in Albany to raise their two daughters, Carly & Laura, but Terry never stopped playing a mean game of tennis.
Off the Tennis court, Terry was an active and vibrant member of her other place of worship, Temple Ohav Shalom. Terry participated in countless marathon walks to raise money for cancer and was the first person to bring soup and company to a sick friend. Terry was an every election voter. She knew how important her voice was and instilled that value in her daughters. Terry was an avid news watcher and enjoyed discussing everything from current events to her favorite books. She loved her Albany friends and played (and won!) mahjong with them until the very end. Terry loved a good talk and could engage absolutely anyone with ease. She brought that skill into her long career in public service and passed that skill on to her daughters.
Terry leaves behind her beloved husband, Ivor Moskowitz, her two daughters Carly Chana McClain and Laura Beth Moskowitz Vaccaro as well as their spouses, Leveille McClain & Mitchell Vaccaro. Terry’s other greatest loves, her grandchildren, remain behind but bettered by her endless adoration and support of them: Molly-Maxine Willow, Eden Grey McClain, Skylar Petyton Vaccaro, Indra McClain, Riley Jacob Vaccaro and Bryson Eli Vaccaro are grateful for all the good times they shared with their fabulous Bubbie. Terry also leaves behind two brothers, their spouses and nieces and nephews. Terry will be sorely missed by her family and her extensive community.
