Defreestville -Theodore Saul Rappaport

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, Theodore Saul (Teddy) Rappaport passed away at age 88. Born and raised in Albany, NY, October 19, 1932 to Phillip and Rachel Rappaport. Teddy was predeceased by his older brother Leonard (Lenny) Rappaport, and his wife/childhood sweetheart of 60 years, Shirley (Levy) Rappaport. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his two daughters Amy Young (Kevin Young) and Meta Rappaport (Mark Muraven) and his five grandchildren, Max, Ben and Alex Young, and Anya and Sammy Muraven.

Teddy was a beloved 7-9th grade Social Studies teacher in the Albany School District for 37 years when he retired in 1992. He was very active in the teacher’s union though out his career and worked with his other union colleagues to negotiate fair wages and benefits for teachers in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. Teddy loved cooking, music, theatre, opera, dance and world travel. He spent his final years in Defreestville with his Maine Coon cat in the home where he and Shirley raised their family.

Those of you who wish to remember Teddy in a special way may consider a donation in his memory to either the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (mohawkhumane.org) or Jacob’s Pillow Dance Theatre (jacobspillow.org).
