Theodore "Ted" Sobol Obituary

Slingerlands – Theodore “Ted” Sobol, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 6, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Gloversville NY, Ted is the son of the late Paul and Sylvia (Tiger) Sobol.

Ted was one of the most extraordinary men in existence. Growing up in Gloversville, NY with his beloved parents, brother, and dog Peppy, Ted enjoyed summers on the lake at Camp Agaming in Speculator, NY and winters walking to and from school in six-feet of snow, somehow with both directions uphill!  Ted enlisted in the Air Force, proudly serving his country in Vietnam and as a member of the Air National Guard for 27 years moving up the ranks to Lt. Colonel. Ted graduated from SUNY Stony Brook with a bachelors degree in Public Policy and a Masters Degree from SUNY Albany in Governmental Affairs.

Ted met Robin in 1983 and it truly was love at first sight, with Ted and Robin getting engaged just two months after meeting. Together with their daughters Paula and Ally, Robin and Ted built a life that was centered on love, respect, family, and communication. Ted was the practical, patient, and scholarly parent while Robin brought creativity and enthusiasm into the household. They really were the most complimentary pair!

Ted was described by anyone who knew him as the most selfless, compassionate, and effortlessly endearing person. While Ted was the ultimate conversationalist, talking to anyone about anything and showing the most sincere interest and knowledge, Ted’s love for current events, sports and all things science was evident! He loved traveling, learning, and enjoying a cup of warm tea, biscotti, and a good book.

Above all else, Ted was the ultimate girl dad and grandfather. Making memories with Robin, his children, and his grandchildren was the highlight of his life. Ted, who is affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Gopa” had a connection with his family like no other! From playing Monopoly, to reading books, to going to swim lessons and being the ultimate chauffeur, the lasting legacy and impact he left on the lives of his loved ones is immeasurable. His strength, quiet wisdom and endless love will be felt for generations to come.

Ted is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Robin Stulmaker Sobol; his beloved daughters, Paula Sobol Priore (Christopher) and Allison Sobol Saylor (Richard); his cherished grandchildren, Zuri and Lennon Priore; and his older brother, Stephen (Anita) Sobol. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Those wishing to remember Ted in a special way can make memorial contributions in his name to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Ted will be held on Sunday November 9th at 1:00 pm at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany. Burial will follow at the Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville.
