Cohoes - Tobi F. Applebaum, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025, at the age of 89 in Cohoes, NY.

Born in Albany, NY, to Sadye and Jack Weinstein, Tobi lived a life of love, creativity, and devotion. Their home was the center of countless Jewish holidays, filled with delicious food and family traditions that Tobi continued throughout her life. A proud graduate of Albany High School's Class of 1954, she grew up surrounded by the warmth of a tight-knit community that shaped her compassionate spirit.

Tobi was married to the late Irwin Applebaum for 32 years, and together they built a home filled with joy and open doors. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own and operate two businesses: The Gift House on Union Street in Schenectady and Innovative Invitations from her home in Glenville. She also spent several fulfilling years working at Pearl Grant Richmond’s in Stuyvesant Plaza, bringing her impeccable taste and artistic eye to both customers and coworkers.

An active member of Beth Israel Synagogue in Schenectady, Tobi poured her energy into synagogue life, including organizing holiday events and serving on the board.

Tobi had a gift for turning everyday moments into memories.  She loved sharing her baked goods and knitting for family and friends, and brought warmth to everything she did. Everyone loved Tobi. Her quick wit and silly sense of humor were matched only by her kindness and beautiful smile.

Tobi is survived by her devoted daughters: Susan Lessner Gortva, Jill Lessner Looker (Andy), and Laurie Lessner; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is remembered fondly by her cousins, and Maxine Epstein, her cherished friend since childhood.

Our thanks to the staff at Eddy Village Green for the wonderful care given to Tobi. Her daughters invite all who knew her to celebrate her life on Sunday, August 10 at 11:00 am at The Independent Benevolent Cemetery, 260 Fuller Rd. Albany, NY 12203. The funeral services will be held graveside.
