William Nathan Obituary

William “Bill” Nathan, 82, of Slingerlands, NY, passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 23, 1942, in Albany, NY, he was the youngest of three sons of Sidney and Betty (née Green) Nathan. Bill grew up in Albany and graduated from the Milne School before earning a degree from Brown University.

Bill and his beloved wife, Betty, married in 1967. They loved traveling and exploring the world side by side, often attending Rotary conventions and meeting many new friends along the way. They were rarely seen apart.

Bill was a proud business owner, dedicating many years to Nathan Office Interiors, where he provided quality service to his customers. He was also a lifelong fan of RPI hockey, a passion he eagerly shared with friends and family.

A devoted Rotarian, Bill served as president of the Albany Rotary Club and as district governor of Rotary District 7190, now part of Central New York Rotary. He was passionate about Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self” and found great joy in the connections he made through the organization.

Bill was also a dedicated community leader, serving on the boards of Lasalle School in Albany and the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York. He was president of the Brotherhood at Congregation Beth Emeth, where he earned respect for his leadership and active involvement.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Janet (Bob) Wright of Delmar; his son, Joseph Nathan of Albany; and his grandchildren, Samantha and Jeffrey Wright, also of Delmar. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty, who passed just two months ago, as well as his parents and his brothers, Tom and Dick.

The family extends deep gratitude to his caregivers, especially Dakota Cole and Kim Crayon, as well as his hospice case manager, Erin Nichols, for their exceptional compassion, patience, and care.

A funeral service will be held at Congregation Beth Emeth, 100 Academy Road in Albany, on Friday, December 20th at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Beth Emeth Cemetery in Loudonville. Shiva services will take place at the family home following the burial on Friday until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 12-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bill’s memory to the Pine Hollow Arboretum, Rotary International, or Community Hospice.
